Tanya came to me with some specific ideas that she wanted in the gowns for her and her attendants. She knew that she wanted her bridesmaids to have a dress which they would wear again. She also knew that, since she was planning an outdoor wedding, she would need to consider keeping the dress clean and not have a train on her gown.
After Tanya’s wedding, she sent me a couple of the “first look” photos that their photographer had taken. The smile on her and her groom's faces in that series of photos made this project one to remember!
A family friend from when my own kids were in grade school, Megan knew she wanted me to make her dress when got married. She came to me with several ideas, and we worked together to come up with the dress of her dreams. She was so pleased with her dress when she saw herself in it that it brought tears to her eyes!
Kyle was a lot of fun to work with! Her mother brought her in with a picture from the bride’s Pinterest account and wanted to know if I could make the dress in two pieces instead of one. As we talked, I suggested a few minor tweaks to the skirt that would make it simpler to construct which she happily accepted.
My favorite part of this project was watching Kyle twirl in the dress when she and her mom came to pick it up!
After watching her sister work with me 3 years before, Chelsea knew that she wanted me to make her dress as well. Like many brides, she had pictures of a few gowns that she liked and imagined a final product with elements from each of them. When Chelsea came for the first fitting, which was only a rough draft of the gown’s lining, I could already tell by the smile on her face that we were on to something.
After the wedding, she posted quite a few pictures of her, her beaming smile, and her family & friends on Facebook!
Susan Yancer-Hatcher learned to sew on her great-grandmother's treadle sewing machine when she was barely a teenager. Now, a few decades later, she has a wide range of experiences which she uses to ensure that each garment she creates is a unique piece of art designed specifically for the client.
